Like most great romances in the Internet age, Nikki and Laurent met through an app. By divine providence they both decided to swipe right on each others page, communicate through copious text messages, and then finally meet in person. The rest is history as they say. Love quickly bloomed and now, just a couple of years later, Nikki and Laurent are ready to say their vows and spend the rest of their lives together (along with their little dog Frasier).
It was a hot day in July. Nikki and Laurent were on a weekend getaway in Charlottesville, VA and were touring Monticello. Laurent had been acting aloof (understatement) for a few days and Nikki couldn't quite figure out what was going on with him. As they walked around the grounds of Monticello, he kept trying to get her to stop and take pictures in somewhat secluded, "nature" areas of the grounds. Clearly, Nikki being the true urbanite that she is, refused every request. "Why would someone walk in grass when there's a perfectly good, paved, path?"
Running out of options as the two walked towards Jefferson's graveyard, Laurent stopped Nikki under a weeping willow tree, told her that he had something to tell her and that he'd been keeping a secret from her (maybe not the best words in hindsight), then he dropped to one knee and pulled the ring from his pocket. Nikki claims she blacked out, but what Laurent remembers is her enthusiastically saying yes, and people on a hill clapping. They both definitely remember the mysterious old woman appeared, looked at Nikki and the ring and then, unprompted said, "Looks like a rock to me honey, he's a keeper!" She's not wrong, on both counts.
Nikki, Laurent and Frasier spent the rest of the day drinking wine in the mountains, and enjoying the beginning of a new path together.
